A few minutes ago, Yokohama FC's homepage announced that the club has extended the contract with Cong Phuong until the end of 2024. The Japanese team's decision to keep the Vietnamese striker brought many surprises to fans.
After being relegated from the Japanese national championship, Yokohama FC proceeded to liquidate many redundant players to reduce the operating budget. However, in the end, they kept Cong Phuong, who did not make a significant contribution last season.
During the past season, the Nghe An striker did not play a single minute for Yokohama FC in the Japanese national championship. He only appeared for two minutes in the match against Nagoya Grampus in the Japanese League Cup.
Previously, Cong Phuong also expressed his wish not to return to Vietnam to play. Instead, this player wants to stay at Yokohama FC to compete for a position after a disappointing season.
