Last night (November 11), Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) announced a new coaching staff, including Le Cong Vinh as assistant. However, the former striker of the Vietnamese national team later denied returning to his hometown team.

Cong Vinh said he was contacted by SLNA's leadership and invited to be the chairman of the coaching council to manage the team's expertise in the V.League as well as the youth team. However, after consideration, the former captain of the Vietnam national team refused.

Cong Vinh is not an assistant coach at SLNA.

"After discussing with my family, due to the urgent time, Vinh cannot arrange his current job in Ho Chi Minh City. Perhaps Vinh cannot accept the invitation to return to SLNA to support the team. I hope the leadership and SLNA fans will sympathize with Vinh," Le Cong Vinh announced on social media.

Cong Vinh retired at the end of 2016. After that, this star did not participate in coaching. He became the president of Ho Chi Minh City Club but did not leave a significant mark on the profession. In recent years, Cong Vinh has been active in the field of community football. It was not until 2024 that the former captain of the Vietnam national team began studying to become a coach from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) C-class certificate class.

Song Lam Nghe An has just changed its head coach. The team parted ways with coach Pham Anh Tuan after a period of poor performance (no wins after the first 7 rounds of V.League 2024-2025). The new coach of this team is Phan Nhu Thuat.
