According to the family, the boy (living in Yen Tu ward) was being carried by an adult on a motorbike when unfortunately a traffic collision occurred, causing him to be thrown onto the hard ground.
When admitted to the emergency room, the patient had a bleeding forehead wound, rapid pulse, and severe abdominal pain. Ultrasound and abdominal CT scan results showed that the patient had a grade IV liver rupture, a grade I spleen rupture, and intra-abdominal bleeding.
The hospital immediately activated the internal red alert, mobilizing the emergency surgical team including specialists in General Surgery, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, and Intensive Care. After more than 1 hour of urgent surgery, the doctors controlled the bleeding, performed hemostasis sutures on the liver and spleen, drained the abdomen, and promptly transfused blood to the child.
Dr. Vu Duc Thu (Head of the Department of Digestive and General Surgery) said: “Closed abdominal trauma can cause organ rupture and bleeding, leading to a critical condition if not detected early. In this case, prompt emergency surgery is a vital measure, helping the child overcome the jaws of death.”
Currently, the patient's health is stable, alert, responsive, and is being monitored and actively cared for at the Pediatrics Department.
The incident is also a warning to parents that traffic accidents can happen at any time, so complying with safety regulations and equipping children with knowledge to protect them is extremely necessary.
