On July 13, former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad held a picnic and outdoor party to celebrate his 100th birthday and the 99th birthday of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, in Putrajaya city, Malaysia.

More than 500 people, including many supporters, came to celebrate and have breakfast with the former prime minister's family.

According to the news site Says (Malaysia), Mr. Mahathir arrived at the event at 7:45 a.m. and participated in a tandem bicycle ride around Tasik Putrajaya Lake.

After nearly an hour of cycling, equivalent to 8-9km, he showed signs of fatigue and had to rest for a while before having breakfast.

At 10am, he suddenly left the party earlier than expected, cutting short the socializing and photo-taking activities due to poor health.

Mahathir was later admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur for observation, said Sufi Yusoff, an aide to the former Malaysian prime minister.

"Mr. Mahathir was allowed to go home at 4:45 p.m. the same day," the former prime minister's office said.

According to CNA, Mr. Mahathir, who led Malaysia for more than two decades, has a history of heart disease and had coronary artery bypass surgery.

In recent years, he has been repeatedly hospitalized, most recently in October last year for a respiratory infection.

The son of former Malaysian Prime Minister Mokhzani Mahathir told the Malay Mail that Mahathir had no serious health problems, he was just tired from attending an event the night before and had not slept well.

Mahathir served as prime minister for 22 years until 2003. He returned to power in 2018 after leading the opposition coalition to a historic general election victory. However, his government lasted less than two years due to internal discord.
