Việt NamViệt Nam26/03/2025

For a long time, the palanquin procession has become an indispensable cultural feature on every occasion of the Hung Kings' death anniversary. This is a traditional activity with special significance, demonstrating the good values in religious culture, at the same time expressing the pride in the origin, national pride and the morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking" of the Vietnamese people.

The palanquin procession of Hy Cuong commune carries the palanquin to Hung Temple.

Coming to Hy Cuong commune (Viet Tri city) in the first days of March, in the bustling atmosphere towards the Hung Kings' death anniversary, members of the commune's palanquin procession are busy arranging, carefully cleaning every small detail of the items in the palanquin procession and adjusting costumes, preparing conditions for the palanquin procession to Hung Temple.

Elderly people and veterans joined the procession.

This year is the 10th year - a full decade - that Mr. Trieu Van Tien has participated in the palanquin procession of Hy Cuong commune to Hung Temple on the 10th day of the third lunar month. As the leader of the palanquin procession, immediately after the Commune People's Committee deployed the Organization Plan, participating in activities serving the Hung Kings' Commemoration Anniversary and the Cultural - Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land in the year of At Ty 2025, Mr. Tien and members of the Organizing Committee met to discuss and unify the assignment of tasks, together with the organizations and unions in the commune to propagate and mobilize cadres, members and people to actively participate.

He said: “This year, the Hy Cuong commune palanquin procession has about 150 people, in addition to the elderly, there are also many veterans, women and people in the commune participating in the teams... The members of the group are all exemplary people, with good moral standards and good health. Although each person has a job, when they are selected, everyone is happy and excited because they can participate in the palanquin procession to offer incense to commemorate and show gratitude for the merits of the Hung Kings”.

Mr. Trieu Van Tien (left) and the Commune Veterans Association selected war veteran members to participate in the procession.

As the leader of the group for many years, Mr. Tien has a lot of experience in gathering and commanding. While participating in the procession, Mr. Tien focused on observing and covering the general situation of the group to guide and adjust the procession to be even and beautiful. Leading the way is the lion dance team, followed by the procession of the national flag and festival flags, the group of people playing gongs, drums, carrying symbols and eight treasures, the eight-sound team dancing with the money, carrying umbrellas and palanquins, and finally the officials and people. In addition, the procession also has young girls carrying incense, flowers, and local offerings.

In particular, among the communes, wards and towns on the outskirts of the Hung Temple Historical Site participating in the palanquin procession, the Hy Cuong commune palanquin procession is the only one allowed to carry the palanquin and offer offerings to the Upper Temple on the main festival day, so everything must be carefully prepared, ensuring safety and following traditional rituals.

The annual palanquin procession on the occasion of the Hung Kings' death anniversary adds to the cultural value of the Hung Kings' worship in Phu Tho - an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. For Mr. Tien, being able to participate in the palanquin procession to Hung Temple, being trusted by the commune leaders, the organizing committee and the people to be the leader of the palanquin procession is a great honor and pride. The palanquin procession to Hung Temple on the occasion of the Hung Kings' death anniversary every year always has an important meaning, not only for Mr. Trieu Van Tien himself or the people of Hy Cuong commune but also for all the children of the Vietnamese people across the country who turn to their homeland, respectfully offering incense to commemorate the Hung Kings.
