Gaza Strip will not be governed by foreign forces

The Palestinian Authority on June 30 rejected any foreign presence in the Palestinian territories, following Israel's call for the transfer of the Gaza Strip to international forces.

According to the official WAFA news agency, Palestinian Presidential Office spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh affirmed that any foreign presence on Palestinian land is illegal and only the Palestinian people have the right to decide who can run and manage their affairs.

Spokesperson Rudeineh also stressed that the Palestine Liberation Organization is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and is the organization that "has legal authority over the entire Palestinian territory including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem." The Palestinian issue is not only related to humanitarian aid but also to territory and statehood.

Earlier, on June 28, Israel's Kan radio reported that Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant discussed a transitional plan for the Gaza Strip during his visit to the US several days ago, assuming that the military capabilities of the Hamas Islamic Movement had declined and could not conduct large-scale military operations.

Under the plan, international forces (which could include troops from Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Morocco) would oversee security in Gaza while the US would provide leadership and logistics from outside the territory, possibly in Egypt. The plan would be implemented in phases from the north to the south of the Gaza Strip, gradually transferring responsibility for security to Palestinian forces.

On the same day, according to Al-Qahera News TV, Egypt has denied information that it has agreed to relocate the Rafah border gate with the Gaza Strip or build a new passage near Israel's Kerem Shalom border gate.

Citing a senior security source, Al-Qahera News TV said there had been no Egyptian discussion regarding the relocation of the Rafah crossing or Israeli surveillance of the area. The source also stressed Egypt’s adherence to Israel’s complete withdrawal from the Rafah crossing on the Palestinian side, and said Egypt refused to send any of its forces into the Gaza Strip.

Since May 7, the Israeli army announced that it has imposed "operational" control over the Rafah border crossing on the Palestinian side, leading to the suspension of aid shipments from Egypt to Gaza through this crossing.

According to updated figures from the Hamas-run Gaza health agency, since the conflict between Hamas and Israel broke out on October 7, 2023, 37,877 Palestinians have been killed and 86,969 injured.

Regarding the conflict, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that 18 of its soldiers were injured, including one seriously injured, in a UAV attack in the Golan Heights on June 30.

The attack took place early in the morning in the northern Golan Heights, and the origin of the drone is still unknown, the IDF said in a statement. The Israeli Air Force also carried out strikes on the night of June 30 on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, including an observation post and a rocket launcher that had been used to launch rockets into northern Israel. IDF artillery also struck several positions of the group.

Earlier, on June 29, the Israeli army announced that it had bombed a Hezbollah military building in the village of Hula, southern Lebanon, after discovering armed members of the group there.

The escalation of tensions between Israel and Hezbollah has raised fears of a wider conflict in the region. There has been a sharp increase in shelling between the two sides in recent months.
