The Dien Bien Bride is the affectionate name that many people call Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Ngoc Toan. Although she is over 90 years old, she still cannot help but be moved every time she looks at the photo with her life partner - Lieutenant General Cao Van Khanh, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army. Their love blossomed and blossomed even though the battlefield still had the smell of gunpowder. 70 years ago, on May 22, 1954, about 2 weeks after the Dien Bien Phu victory, they had a unique wedding right in the De Castries bunker with the blessings of all their comrades. Also during the days when the whole country was looking towards Dien Bien, Mrs. Toan traveled more than 1,800km to return to visit the old battlefield even though her health no longer allowed it. Under the early summer sun of the Northwest region, she still tried to burn incense for her comrades and visited all the places of that year with her children and grandchildren. The war has ended, a new life, a real change has begun after the victory in 1954. The photos capturing the special wedding moments have now been given by the family to the Dien Bien Provincial Relic Management Board. And the story of the couple's simple happiness will always be one of the symbols of the Vietnamese people's aspiration for peace .
