Reuters quoted Deputy Inspector General of Police Munir Ahmed as saying a suicide bomber had caused the explosion. The news agency quoted Pakistani police and medical officials as saying at least 52 people were killed and at least 58 others were injured.

Local health official Abdul Rasheed said the death toll could rise as many of the victims were in critical condition. Local officials appealed to the public to donate blood for the injured. The government also declared three days of mourning.

Later, another explosion occurred at a mosque in Hangu city, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province during prayers. The explosion caused the ceiling to collapse and there were about 30-40 people inside at the time of the accident.

People injured in the explosion in Mastung are taken to hospital for emergency treatment.

At least two people have been confirmed dead, al-Jazeera reported, citing rescue officials. Both blasts occurred near the Afghan border.

No group has yet claimed responsibility. Attacks by Islamist militants in Pakistan have increased since last year, when a deal between the government and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an umbrella group of Sunni Muslim groups, collapsed.

The TTP has denied involvement in the September 29 attack in Balochistan. Interior Minister Safraz Bugti called the attack a very brutal act.

In July, more than 40 people were killed in a suicide bombing at a gathering of a religious political party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
