In June 2018, Norman Witherow, a farmer in County Donegal, Ireland, decided to dig a sewer. While digging, he suddenly saw something shining in the dirt. After removing the dirt, Norman Witherow discovered 4 gold bracelets. He took them home to clean.

The next day, Norman Witherow took the bracelets to his friend's jewelry store for examination. His friend said the bracelets were antiques and advised him to report them to the Donegal County Authority. The local authority contacted the Museum and asked them to send a team of archaeologists to examine them.

According to the test results, these bracelets are made of solid gold. The total weight of the 4 bracelets is up to 4kg. In addition to the main ingredient of gold, the bracelets also contain small amounts of silver and copper.

They date back to the Bronze Age (2,500 – 800 BC) or possibly even earlier. They are quite similar to some Bronze Age gold artifacts that have been excavated in Ireland in the past.

According to archaeologists, these four gold bracelets could be jewelry, ceremonial objects or a type of currency from that period.

By November 2018, the Donegal County Museum valued these four bracelets at around £260,000 (equivalent to about 7.8 billion VND).

These 4 bracelets were then returned to Norman Witherow. He only had to pay the VAT after selling the bracelets. Thus, after half a year, Norman Witherow became a tycoon thanks to this “treasure” that fell from the sky.
