On February 28, a representative of the organizing committee of the International Film Festival (HIFF) announced that Hirokazu Kore-eda will be participating in the Director Spotlight program. In addition to introducing the filmmaker, the organizers plan to screen Kore-eda's award-winning works. "This is an opportunity for domestic audiences to once again enjoy good international films, and for domestic and foreign filmmakers to learn from each other's experiences," said a representative of the organizing committee.

Hirokazu Kore-eda, 62, is one of the most prominent representatives of contemporary Japanese cinema. The artist regularly has films competing at Cannes and won the Jury Prize in 2013 with Like Father, Like Son . In 2018, the director's work Shoplifters received the Palme d'Or at the 71st Cannes. Kore-eda's victory is the second time in the 21st century that an Asian director has won the Palme d'Or, after Apichatpong Weerasethakul in 2010 ( Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives ).

Broker - which won Song Kang-ho the Best Actor award at Cannes 2022 - was also directed by him. Last year, Kore-eda's film Monster won the Best Screenplay award at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
