Stomach pain for months, indigestion, went to the doctor and discovered a large tumor in the stomach.

Patient TMH (58 years old, living in Binh Thuan ) had symptoms of epigastric pain for many months, feeling indigestion so he went to the hospital for examination.

On December 18, Dr. Hoang Anh Dung (Department of Gastroenterology, Military Hospital 175 , Ho Chi Minh City) said that through gastric endoscopy, the patient was found to have a submucosal tumor lesion measuring 4x6 cm in the body of the stomach, with a shallow ulcer on the surface of the lesion.

After interdisciplinary consultation between Gastroenterology and Abdominal Surgery, the surgical team decided to perform endoscopic submucosal dissection to completely remove the entire lesion.

According to Dr. Dung, due to the large size of the tumor, the intervention had many potential complications such as bleeding or stomach perforation during the dissection process. However, with the efforts of the surgical team, the tumor was completely removed without causing damage to surrounding organs. After only 5 days of treatment, the patient recovered, walked normally and was discharged from the hospital. Pathology results confirmed that the tumor was a benign hyperplastic polyp, with no risk of progressing to cancer.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection is a therapeutic endoscopic procedure used to remove early-stage cancer or large polyps in the esophagus, stomach, colon, and anus without surgery. This is one of the minimally invasive intervention methods today, safe for all ages, especially elderly patients with early-stage gastrointestinal cancer.
