As with any cancer, detecting symptoms early can save lives. Although some people with cervical cancer have no symptoms at all, there are some warning signs to look out for, according to the Express .

Pain in the lower back or pelvis should be checked if it does not improve after two to three weeks, says gynaecologist Susanna Unsworth, formerly of the UK's National Health Service.

According to the UK National Health Service, the pain can be in the lower back, between the hip bones (pelvis) or in the lower abdomen.

Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells in the lining of the cervix grow out of control.

Dr Nikita Patel, working at Vitality Health Center (UK) also warned similarly: See a doctor as soon as possible if you have lower abdominal pain, pelvic or back pain, or pain during sex, according to Express .

Dr. Nikita Patel shares 3 other symptoms of cervical cancer to watch out for:

Bleeding: Abnormal vaginal bleeding is also a symptom of cervical cancer.

This is bleeding between periods, bleeding after sex, or bleeding that occurs after menopause.

Pain may be in the lower back, between the hip bones (pelvis), or in the lower abdomen.

Changes in vaginal discharge: If you notice changes in your vaginal discharge, such as becoming thicker, changing color, changing odor, or having blood in it, see your doctor immediately.

Pain during sex: This could be a sign that something is wrong.

Dr Nikita Patel warns: If you feel pain during sex and after trying everything it still doesn't help, you should talk to your doctor, according to Express .

It is worth noting that these symptoms can also be uterine fibroids or endometriosis.

Although these symptoms are not necessarily cervical cancer, tests are needed to determine the cause, adds Dr Unsworth.

Dr Unsworth also urged women to be screened for cervical cancer even if they have no symptoms. Regular checks are needed to detect warning signs before the disease develops.
