Investing in silver is more profitable than buying gold?

(NLDO) – While the price of gold has increased by more than 30% since the beginning of the year, one asset is also at its highest level in more than 10 years, attracting the attention of many people.

According to Kitco, after gold prices increased by more than 30% from the beginning of 2025 until now, continuing a series of sharp increases in 2024, many investors began to "look" at another precious metal, silver.

At one point, silver prices were trading near a 13-year high, above $37 an ounce.

As of June 20, the price of silver on the international market was commonly traded at 35.7 USD/ounce, up 22% compared to the beginning of the year. Notably, the price of silver is at its highest level in more than 10 years and has become an investment channel attracting the attention of investors, besides gold.

Currently, the world silver price converted according to the listed exchange rate is about 1.13 million VND/tael.

In the domestic market, silver prices are traded by large companies such as Phu Quy and Sacombank - SBJ at 1.4 million VND/tael for buying and 1.444 million VND/tael for selling, an increase of about 320,000 VND/tael compared to the beginning of the year.

In total, silver holders have made a profit of about 28%, approximately the same as gold and much higher than other investment channels.

Silver is also benefiting in the precious metals chain and becoming the investment channel of choice thanks to its attractive returns, experts say.

On forums, many people say they are investing in silver with the expectation of high returns.

On investment forums, silver has also become a topic of interest to many people. On a gold forum with nearly 98,000 members, an investor said: "The money to buy 10 taels of gold is equal to buying nearly 1,000 taels of silver. For the past month, buying 10 taels of gold has earned a few hundred thousand, while silver has a large profit"... Many other investors wonder whether they should buy silver now, because the capital required to invest in silver is less than that of gold, while the profit is high?

Talking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper about the current trend of investing in silver, gold expert Tran Duy Phuong analyzed that investing in silver is becoming a new trend, especially in the context of gold prices having increased too high, exceeding the purchasing power of many people. Meanwhile, silver prices also fluctuate in parallel with gold prices and are also considered an effective tool to prevent financial risks.

Silver’s profitability is not inferior to gold’s when it comes to price appreciation. With a much lower investment cost (silver is currently only about 1% of gold), investors can allocate capital more flexibly. For example, with VND120 million, you can buy nearly 85 taels of silver. If silver increases by 1%, the profit is still equivalent to gold, about VND1.2 million. However, if silver increases more strongly, as has happened in some periods, the profit margin can be much higher.
