This is the best anti-aging medicine

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên13/06/2023

Everyone knows that using moisturizer and sunscreen is a way to fight aging. However, the best anti-aging medicine is physical activity, according to the health news site Health.

Exercise can create changes at the cellular level that help fight aging by training the body to cope with the aging process.

Why can physical activity slow down the aging process?

Everyone knows that using moisturizer and sunscreen is a way to fight aging. However, the best anti-aging medicine is physical activity.

Exercise is anti-aging because it reduces the risk of chronic diseases. Physical activity also has anti-aging effects on body parts and processes, such as:

  • Brain: Increased neurogenesis and reduced cognitive changes
  • Cardiovascular system: Reduces blood pressure and improves heart function
  • Metabolism: Better Metabolism
  • Muscle: Increased muscle building leads to benefits such as better strength, balance, and joint mobility
  • Respiratory system: Improves breathing and lung ventilation
  • Exercise-induced stress trains the body to cope with aging

A 2022 study found that physical activity can stress the body, which can help fight aging and age-related diseases.

This is because the body's responses to exercise stress—such as increased cortisol levels and inflammation—are similar to what happens to the body as it ages. As a result, by adapting to exercise stress, the body is trained to cope with the physiological stress of aging.

Endurance training like running and HIIT workouts can reduce signs of aging at the cellular level

Body changes occur at the cellular level

Research in the European Heart Journal , a medical journal, noted two important changes in the cells of runners and people who did high-intensity interval training (HIIT): Their telomeres lengthened and telomerase increased.

Telomeres are the caps at the ends of chromosomes. As we age, these telomeres get shorter. Telomerase is an enzyme that helps maintain these caps.

These effects are important for cellular aging, regeneration and therefore help fight aging, said study author Dr Ulrich Laufs, from the University of Leipzig in Germany.

Telomeres naturally shorten as we age, as cells die without continuing to divide. Cell death causes:

  • Wrinkle formation
  • Gray hair appears
  • Age-related diseases such as heart disease, cognitive decline, and even premature death

Researchers hypothesize that these types of exercise affect nitric oxide (NO) levels in the blood. NO increases blood flow. This in turn affects cell changes in people who do the two exercises, according to Health.

Research also shows that endurance exercise — like running, swimming or cycling, and HIIT — all slow signs of aging at the cellular level.
