In September 2023, the Department of Foreign Information, Ministry of Information and Communications completed the campaign "Towards the National Flag" with the strong spread of influencers (KOLs) on social networks.

After the Youth Union, the Department of Foreign Information, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and Schannel Network launched the campaign "Towards the National Flag" on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day, the campaign attracted a large number of young people and people to participate and respond, contributing to spreading the beautiful image of the Vietnamese flag and the spirit of patriotism with impressive numbers.

On TikTok, the campaign's main hashtags (keywords) including #NgayQuockhanh, #ToiYeuToQuocToi and #happyvietnam were widely spread. More than 60,000 videos and 10,000 uses of the video template had content related to the national flag, with 99% of the information and content being positive, with a total view count of about 800 million, from August 26 to September 9.

On Facebook – Instagram, 200,000 people changed their profile picture frame to the flag image, 21,000 used the related story template (a short-term image displayed on the personal page), with beautiful and positive images continuously updated throughout the campaign.

Together with other platforms such as newspapers and media at locations, the campaign created a strong positive effect.

Promoting KOL communication in promoting national and local images

With the advantage of easily reaching the audience, being able to provide attractive and rich content with a young perspective, influencers (KOLs) on social networks are increasingly considered as an effective channel to promote the image of the locality, country, people, culture and history of Vietnam.

In May 2024, the Center for Journalism and International Cooperation (under the Department of Foreign Information, Ministry of Information and Communications) cooperated with SChannel Advertising and Communication Services Joint Stock Company for the period 2024-2027, orienting the content to appear simultaneously on the website vietnam.vn and social media channels of KOLs managed by Schannel Network.

The Center has also signed a similar MOU with Vitamin Vietnam Media and Entertainment Joint Stock Company, cooperating with a number of social media channels of KOLs such as Quang Linh Vlog, Lao Girl Mayssa, Miss Sidewalk, Will, Check in Vietnam, Amazing things in Vietnam, Blog of Rot; Hoang Nam; Quach Beem...

In 2023-2024, the agency will coordinate with KOLs to spread the story of a happy Vietnam to the world, in the process of promoting the Happy Vietnam photo and video contest; or spreading the event of the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory in Hanoi and Dien Bien, effectively reaching hundreds of millions of views.

Localities also have a lot of experience in exploiting and using KOL teams to promote local images. Ha Giang organizes forums such as the "Digital media spreads the image of Ha Giang" seminar, establishes "Ha Giang media team" groups, and honors individuals and organizations with outstanding contributions. Thanh Hoa has experience in collaborating with KOLs to promote images in Pu Luong and Ba Thuoc, contributing to promoting tourism.

To make this cooperation method more complete and effective, the Department of Foreign Information believes that it is necessary to soon complete the system of legal documents to strengthen strict management of KOLs' activities in cyberspace, and also suggest that localities proactively deploy the use of KOLs in promoting local images.
