DBC and VPB entered MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes

Currently, Vietnamese stocks still account for the highest proportion in both MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes and MSCI Frontier Markets Small Cap Indexes.


Currently, Vietnamese stocks still account for the highest proportion in both MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes and MSCI Frontier Markets Small Cap Indexes.

MSCI has just announced its November portfolio review with Vietnam having 2 new stocks added to the MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes and 0 stocks removed.  

In this review, Vietnam is the only country with 2 stocks added, while Morocco and Ivory Coast each added 1 stock. Pakistan, Oman, Romania, Croatia, Jordan were each excluded with 1 stock.  

Shares DBC of Dabaco and VPB of VPBank were added to the portfolio this time. Of which, DBC was transferred from the MSCI Frontier Market Small Cap Indexes basket.  

2 Vietnamese stocks added to 0 stocks removed from MSCI Frontier Market Index

In total, in this review, MSCI added 4 stocks and removed 5 stocks from the MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes.

Meanwhile, in the MSCI Frontier Markets Small Cap Indexes basket, Vietnam was added to 8 stocks, including DL1, MCM, VC3, PVP, CSM, HT1, VTZ, HVT. On the contrary, 6 codes were removed from the basket including INN, CLL, GKM, OCH, TDM and DBC, while DBC was transferred to the Frontier Markets Indexes.

Thus, after the November review, the Small Cap book removed 10 stocks and added 28 stocks.  

8 new Vietnamese stocks added to MSCI 's Frontier Markets Small Cap basket

Currently, Vietnamese stocks still account for the highest proportion in both MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes and MSCI Frontier Markets Small Cap Indexes.  

As of October 31, 2024, the two major stocks, HPG and VHM, are both in the MSCI Frontier Markets' 10 highest-weighted stocks, out of a total of 216 constituent stocks. Vietnamese stocks also account for the highest weight in the portfolio structure, at 25%.

At MSCI Frontier Market Small Cap, Vietnamese stocks account for an overwhelming weight of 32.44%. However, by the end of October, only DBC was in the top 10 with the highest weight in the basket, before being transferred to the Frontier Market basket at the end of November.
