At noon on June 26, more than 1.1 million candidates officially completed the first high school graduation exam subject, literature. The exam according to the 2018 General Education Program (new program) made many candidates excited because it included a social argumentation question that was said to be in tune with the breath of the times, requiring candidates to have "understanding of the context of the country undergoing many great changes".

Specifically, the exam requires candidates to write an essay of about 600 words on the topic: "The sky of any homeland is the sky of the Fatherland". "At first, I didn't think of it right away, but after thinking more carefully, I realized that the topic was about the issue of merging provinces and cities and streamlining the administrative apparatus that is taking place in our country", Ha Duc Cuong, a student at Tran Khai Nguyen High School (HCMC), shared.

Cuong said that when it comes to the issue of merging provinces and cities, he also relates it to the current situation of young people. For example, some young people, seeing that their hometown no longer has its old name, think that they have "lost their hometown", and from there, they make many inappropriate statements on social networks, even discriminating against regions. "This is a form of ' peaceful evolution' that we have learned about in national defense and security education," Cuong said.

"I believe that those who follow the country's economic and political situation will definitely do well on this essay," the male student emphasized. "However, in reality, observing at the exam site, I saw that many students were a bit sad after today's essay exam," Cuong said, adding that many candidates have recently studied a lot about the topics of youth and AI (artificial intelligence).

Meanwhile, in the reading comprehension section, Cuong assessed the test as "relatively easy", within the ability of most candidates. The requirement to write a paragraph analyzing the content of a text in the reading comprehension section is also knowledge that many candidates have learned before, according to Cuong. "I hope to get 8 points or higher," Cuong said.

Also mentioning the story of merging provinces and cities, Dieu Hoang Cat Tien, a student at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (HCMC), said that the new literature program this year was somewhat "difficult to swallow", requiring students to follow current events to be able to handle it well. "When I turned the topic over, I was stunned. I sat and thought for a while before finding out that the discussion topic was merging provinces and cities," Tien recalled.

In her essay, the female student argued that many people think that the merger of provinces and cities makes them "lose their homeland", but in reality "any homeland's sky is the sky of the Fatherland". The female student also stated the argument, "overseas students also have a homeland sky with them, in their hearts and it also turns towards the Fatherland" to show that even though they study abroad, they can still contribute to their homeland.

To illustrate this point, Tien chose to quote General Secretary To Lam when responding to a question from a student at Columbia University (USA), on the occasion of attending the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week. This answer summarizes that every time Vietnamese international students make contributions to humanity, they are also contributing to the development of our Fatherland.

After completing the literature exam, Tien felt that with the new exam structure, from this year onwards, it will be more difficult for students to estimate their literature scores than math and foreign language scores because "the new exam structure is truly limitless in scope". In addition, Tien commented that candidates in the following years should pay close attention to current events because this will be the exam trend in the coming time.

Regarding today's literature exam, Thanh Nien also received a lot of feedback from candidates that they reviewed the "wrong topic" or reviewed the right topic but did not explain the problem well. For example, many candidates chose to focus their review on topics such as youth or technology, especially AI...
