Proposal to ban teachers from cheating on student assessment results

(Dan Tri) - The draft Law on Teachers specifically stipulates 5 things that teachers are not allowed to do, including prohibiting cheating on student assessment results.

The Draft Law on Teachers stipulates that teachers in public educational institutions are not allowed to do things that civil servants are not allowed to do according to the provisions of the law on civil servants.

Teachers in non-public educational institutions and foreign teachers are not allowed to do prohibited work in the field of labor according to the provisions of labor law.

In addition to this, the draft lists five things teachers are not allowed to do.

Specifically, teachers must not discriminate between learners in any form.

Teachers are not allowed to cheat or intentionally falsify results in student recruitment and assessment activities.

Forcing students to participate in extra classes in any form or forcing students to pay money or materials outside of the provisions of law is also prohibited.

In addition, teachers are not allowed to take advantage of their title as teachers and teaching and educational activities to commit illegal acts.

Along with this regulation, the draft Law also clearly states what organizations and individuals are not allowed to do to teachers.

Notably, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) maintains its proposal that information should not be made public during the inspection, examination, and handling of violations by teachers until there is an official conclusion from the competent authority.

This proposal has caused controversy as it could prevent teachers' mistakes from being detected and reported in a timely manner.

In terms of teachers' rights, the draft proposes allowing teachers to proactively choose and use documents and learning materials to serve teaching and educational activities.

Giving his opinion on the draft Law on Teachers during the discussion in the morning group on November 9, General Secretary To Lam stated that when the Law on Teachers is promulgated, it must create favorable conditions for teachers in their teaching work, and not promulgate a law that makes it more difficult for teachers in the educational environment.
