Proposal to relax temporary visa exemption for some foreign nationals

A new proposed incentive is a special visa exemption card with a maximum validity of up to 5 years and at least 30 days shorter than the remaining validity of the passport (current visa exemption regulations are usually short-term, up to 45 days depending on nationality).

The draft Decree on temporary visa exemption for a number of foreigners has just been sent by the Ministry of Public Security to the Ministry of Justice for appraisal, in order to promote socio-economic development.

Priority recipients include guests of senior leaders of the Party, State and Government of Vietnam; general directors, experts, scientists, professors of universities, research institutes, engineers, high-quality IT human resources; investors, leaders of corporations, leaders of large enterprises in the world who have made great contributions to economic development; people working in the fields of culture, arts, sports, tourism who have a positive influence on the public; honorary consuls of Vietnam abroad; guests of research institutes, large universities, large enterprises are also among the priority recipients...

To be considered for resolution, agencies and organizations are requested to send documents to the Immigration Department (Ministry of Public Security) for consideration; the processing time is 3 working days from the date of receipt of complete documents.

Compared to current regulations, a new incentive is a special visa exemption card with a maximum validity of up to 5 years and at least 30 days shorter than the remaining validity of the passport (current visa exemption regulations are usually much shorter, up to 45 days depending on nationality).

Foreigners using special visa exemption cards are granted a temporary residence certificate for 90 days for each entry. In case the card is valid for less than 90 days, the temporary residence period will be equal to the card's validity period. The 90-day temporary residence permit is also a new point, allowing preferential subjects to work and operate longer in Vietnam without having to apply for regular visa extensions.
