Proposal to increase 1,000 billion to complete My Thuan - Can Tho expressway

The Ministry of Transport has just submitted a document to the Prime Minister requesting consideration and approval of adjustments to the investment policy for the construction project of the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway, phase 1.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport proposed to add the intersection with the extended Vo Van Kiet road, located in Vinh Long province, and the residential road along the section through Dong Thap province with a total length of about 7.3 km to the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway Construction Investment Project, Phase 1.

The Ministry of Transport also proposed that the total investment of the project be adjusted to VND 5,826.23 billion, an increase of VND 998.91 billion compared to the preliminary total investment according to the pre-feasibility study report approved in Decision No. 839/QD-TTg in 2020 of the Prime Minister. According to the explanation, the adjusted investment cost increased due to the project's compensation, support and resettlement costs increasing by about VND 783.39 billion, of which the initially approved items increased by about VND 526.57 billion; the addition of the intersection with the extended Vo Van Kiet road increased by about VND 212.69 billion; the addition of the feeder road in Dong Thap province increased by about VND 44.13 billion.
The completion of the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway will shorten the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho from 3 - 4 hours to about 2 hours, contributing to the completion of the transportation and logistics system in the region. Previously, the project had exploited the entire main route before December 31, 2023, but it still had to continue to complete other auxiliary items before June 30, 2024. For additional items including the intersection with the extended Vo Van Kiet road, the residential access road will continue to be implemented from 2024, completed in 2025. The My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway construction investment project phase 1 has a total route length of about 22.97 km (Vinh Long province has a length of 12.52 km; Dong Thap province has a length of 10.45 km). The total preliminary investment of the project is 4,827.32 billion VND from the central budget. The project implementation time is to start construction in 2020 and complete the entire phase 1 project by the end of 2023.
