Translator Nguyen Le Chi honored as "Friend of Chinese Literature"

On July 21, in Nanjing City (China), translator Nguyen Le Chi - founder of Chibooks Joint Stock Company, was honored to receive the title "Friend of Chinese Literature" from Chairman of the Chinese Writers Association Truong Hong Sam. This is the first time a Vietnamese translator has received this title.

The title "Friend of Chinese Literature" honors the translation work of Chinese literature by veteran literary translators from various countries selected by the Chinese Writers Association. Translator Nguyen Le Chi received the title after more than 25 years of persistent work in the field of translation and publishing, with many Chinese literary works introduced to Vietnamese readers.

Along with translator Nguyen Le Chi, 14 translators from other countries were also awarded the title within the framework of the 7th International Conference on Chinese Literature Translation for Sinologists, which took place from July 20 to 24 in Nanjing. The conference, organized by the Chinese Writers Association every two years since 2010, gathered many famous writers and translators from around the world .

With the theme “Translation for the Future”, this year’s conference has the participation of 39 leading Chinese writers such as: Liu Zhenyun, Dongxi, Tat Phiyu…, along with 39 literary translators from countries and territories such as: Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Iran, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Turkey, Netherlands, Poland…

Speaking to the Chinese press, translator Nguyen Le Chi said: “Reading and translating good stories has been my lifelong passion. Being able to access and translate excellent literary works, especially from China, is a great fortune. I hope to continue my journey of searching, discovering and introducing valuable stories, becoming a literary bridge between Vietnamese and Chinese readers. At the same time, I also hope to bring Vietnamese literature to Chinese readers and readers around the world.”
