The most common IELTS score for Vietnamese candidates is 6.0.

According to the latest statistics released by IELTS, in 2023-2024, the average score of Vietnamese candidates in the IELTS (Academic) exam will reach 6.2.

This score is similar to the average IELTS score of Vietnamese candidates in 2022, which is also 6.2 out of a total score of 9.0.

However, in terms of rankings, Vietnam's position has changed. Specifically, with a score of 6.2, the latest IELTS (Academic) test results of Vietnamese candidates ranked 29th out of 39 countries and territories surveyed. In the 2022 IELTS survey, Vietnam ranked 23rd out of 40 countries.

Among the scores, Vietnamese candidates achieved the highest score of IELTS (Academic) 6.0, accounting for about 21% of the total number of candidates. Next, 18% of candidates achieved a score of 6.5 and also 18% achieved a score of 5.5. Only 1% achieved a high score of 8.5 or higher.

Regarding the component scores, Vietnamese candidates achieved 6.3 in the Listening test, 6.4 in the Reading test, 6.0 in the Writing test and 5.7 in the Speaking test.

Compared to 2022, Vietnamese candidates' IELTS scores in Listening and Speaking skills decreased slightly by 0.1 points, while scores in Reading and Writing skills remained the same.

In addition, compared to the average of the countries in the survey, Listening and Speaking scores are lower than the world average, at 6.6 and 6.3 respectively, while Reading and Writing scores are equal to the general level.

Globally, Malaysia and Spain lead the way this year with an average IELTS (Academic) score of 7.1, followed by Italy with 7.0. All three countries also have the highest percentage of test takers achieving 8.0 or above. Notably, 6% of IELTS test takers achieved above 8.5.

In Southeast Asia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar all had higher average scores than Vietnam with 6.8, 6.7 and 6.6 respectively. Vietnam surpassed China and Japan, both with 5.9 points.

IELTS is a popular English language proficiency test, accepted by more than 12,500 organizations worldwide, including educational institutions, employers and immigration authorities. Each year, more than 4 million tests are taken, and in Vietnam, many universities accept this certificate as an alternative to an English score.
