Thai Nguyen Regional Electricity: Ensuring stable grid operation

The 2025 storm season is forecast to have many complicated developments, potentially causing power grid failures in Thai Nguyen, especially in the core urban area. Faced with this reality, Thai Nguyen Regional Power Company has proactively developed and implemented plans to prevent and combat natural disasters, focusing on ensuring the safety of the power grid corridor and maintaining stable power supply.

On the afternoon of July 19, 2025, a sudden thunderstorm and heavy rain swept through the administrative center of Thai Nguyen province, causing a large tree on Bac Kan street to be uprooted, falling on the medium voltage power line system, breaking the electric pole, causing a temporary power outage in the area. However, just a few minutes after the incident occurred, Thai Nguyen Regional Power Company deployed measures to isolate, handle the situation safely and restore power supply. By nearly 2:00 a.m. on July 20, the entire power grid had been completely restored.

Mr. Hoang Viet Anh, residential group 94, Phan Dinh Phung ward (living opposite the incident on Bac Kan road), said: Only about 10 minutes after the tree fell, the Electricity Department was present, set up barriers, mobilized specialized vehicles and handled the situation very methodically. Initially, everyone thought that such an incident would cause a prolonged power outage in the area, many households rushed to buy gasoline to run generators. But just a few hours later, some places had electricity again. We, the people, highly appreciate the timely and professional response of Thai Nguyen Regional Electricity.

This is just one of three major natural disasters that have affected the Thai Nguyen region's power system since the beginning of this year's rainy season. Previously, storms that occurred on the evenings of June 15 and 20 also caused local damage in some areas. In all three situations, authorities quickly removed wires from fallen poles and temporarily connected wires to restore power; at the same time, they surveyed and developed repair and replacement plans for approval by Thai Nguyen Electricity Company, ensuring safety and maintaining continuous operation.

Since the beginning of 2025, clearly identifying the risks that may occur during the storm season, Thai Nguyen Regional Power Company has developed and issued a series of specific plans to minimize violations of the high-voltage grid safety corridor; prevent and combat natural disasters and search and rescue, conduct drills to respond to hypothetical situations of storms, falling trees, and fires; cut and prune trees at risk of violating the grid corridor...

This fact further demonstrates the importance of inspection and prevention work in the context of many inner-city roads having long-standing trees with large canopies, potentially affecting medium-voltage lines.

Mr. Vu Dinh Phuoc, Deputy Head of Thai Nguyen Regional Power Management Team, said: We have proactively checked the power line system day and night. All bad weather warning signals are continuously updated to be ready to deploy human resources and materials when an incident occurs.

As of July 29, 2025, Thai Nguyen Regional Power Company has carried out 92 work sessions to handle power grid corridors; cut and trim trees at 379 locations, a total of 25,612 branches and 121 trees have been treated. For large, high-risk trees, the unit uses specialized equipment and sends personnel to trim trees to ensure electrical safety and urban aesthetics.

In addition to proactively responding to the storm season, another key task that Thai Nguyen Regional Power Company focuses on is ensuring the operation of the power grid in the summer - when the load increases. In particular, in the context of converting to a two-level urban government model, many new administrative units have been established, requiring a stable and uninterrupted power system. To meet this requirement, the unit has developed separate power supply plans for new government offices in wards and communes. At the same time, it plans to invest in additional power lines, transformer stations, and renovate and upgrade the existing power grid.

From now until the end of the year, the unit will energize 13 transformer stations supplying government facilities; renovate and increase the cross-section of low-voltage conductors at 60 transformer stations; repair and replace medium-voltage lines in Quan Trieu ward and Dai Phuc commune; install 34 additional remote-controlled LBS sets, improving the efficiency of grid automation (total investment for the projects is expected to be nearly 45 billion VND).

From promptly handling the power failure caused by the storm on the afternoon of July 19, 2025 to long-term solutions in managing the route corridor and investing in the summer power grid, Thai Nguyen Regional Power Company clearly demonstrated its proactive spirit, responsibility and professional style in operation, ensuring stable power supply to serve people's lives and socio -economic development in the area.
