Djokovic is entering the football investment field. |
The information was confirmed in a joint statement by investment company Sport Republic, the owner of Southampton (England) and Göztepe (Turkey). This deal is part of the strategy to expand the network of satellite clubs in Europe and increase the connection between different sports models.
In addition to Djokovic, Montoya and Massa, the investment group also includes Olympic track and field champion Félix Sánchez. These investors are participating as “strategic shareholders”, supporting the promotion of Le Mans’ brand, communications and sports-business projects during its renaissance period.
Le Mans FC once played in Ligue 1 and was the launching pad for stars like Didier Drogba and Stephane Sessegnon. However, the team has fallen dramatically and is struggling to find a way back to the Second Division.
Djokovic, who has 24 Grand Slam titles, said he was “proud to be part of the rebirth of a club with such a rich history in France”, marking the Serbian’s first step into the role of investor after previously being involved in several sports projects in the Balkans.
