Vietnamese rescue team has arrived in Myanmar

(NLDO) - On the afternoon of March 30, a Vietnamese rescue team arrived in Myanmar to help overcome the consequences of the earthquake.


On the afternoon of March 30, a rescue team of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, consisting of 106 people, led by Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Director of the Department of Rescue and Relief, Ministry of National Defense, and Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting, Ministry of Public Security , along with relief goods, landed at Yangon airport, Myanmar.

At the airport to welcome the delegation to Myanmar were Mr. U Soe Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region, and on the Vietnamese side were Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Ly Quoc Tuan, Colonel Dao Van Duy, Defense Attaché, and all staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar.

To help Myanmar overcome the consequences of the earthquake, Vietnam has decided to provide emergency relief supplies at Myanmar's request, providing US$300,000 in aid to help Myanmar overcome the consequences of the earthquake.

Vietnam's rescue team will deploy rescue missions in the earthquake-affected areas from tomorrow. Relief goods will also be delivered to people in the affected areas.

"We will coordinate with the United Nations, the international coordination force and the Myanmar Rescue Committee, from there, based on our forces, equipment and strengths, to determine the area to carry out the mission, to ensure the most effective" - Major General Pham Van Ty said.

According to Major General Pham Van Ty, the Vietnam People's Army has chosen to send its most elite force to provide earthquake relief in Myanmar, bringing equipment for the work, including heavy machinery. The top priority is to quickly search and rescue victims trapped in the rubble in areas devastated by the earthquake.

Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, Deputy Director of Department C07, affirmed that the members of the Delegation will uphold the spirit of self-awareness, sense of organization, discipline, solidarity, proactively overcome all difficulties to successfully complete the assigned tasks; at the same time, ensure absolute safety throughout the process of organizing search and rescue work.

These are the efforts of the Party, State and people of Vietnam to support Myanmar, an ASEAN member, in overcoming and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters, demonstrating the tradition of "loving others as you love yourself", the spirit of international responsibility and humanitarian gestures of Vietnam, while affirming the prestige and capacity of the Vietnamese rescue force in participating in international activities.

On March 28, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association also sent messages of condolences to the people of Myanmar.
