(Dan Tri) - Coach of the Thai futsal team, Miguel Rodrigo, admitted that defensive mistakes caused his team to lose bitterly to the Vietnamese futsal team.
"We had the advantage of leading and controlling the game in the second half. But everything changed quickly in just a few minutes," coach Miguel Rodrigo said after the Thai futsal team lost 2-3 to Vietnam in the final round of Group A of the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament on the evening of November 6 in Thailand.
Being rated higher with home field advantage, the Thai futsal team started the match very well and soon opened the score in the 5th minute after Vietnam scored an own goal. However, in the 12th minute, captain Pham Duc Hoa brought the equalizer 1-1 for Vietnam after a good corner kick situation of the home team.
In the second half, Thailand once again took the lead in the 31st minute after Tanachot scored. But just 4 minutes later, Dinh Cong Vien equalized 2-2 after the Thai goalkeeper failed to catch the ball.

Not stopping there, the Vietnamese futsal team completed their comeback just a few dozen seconds later. Nguyen Da Hai's shot from 15m away accidentally became a favorable pass for Dinh Cong Vien to finish, bringing a 3-2 comeback victory for the Vietnamese futsal team.
"Clearly in this match, the Vietnamese futsal team showed determination and converted good opportunities into goals. We tried to play offensively but encountered fierce resistance from the opponent. Everything changed in just a few minutes in the second half even though we had the advantage of leading the score first.
I congratulate the Vietnamese futsal team on their victory over Thailand. This defeat will help us look back at ourselves and correct our mistakes. I am also happy that the players fought until the last seconds of the match," coach Miguel Rodrigo said about his team's reverse defeat.
The Spanish strategist also added: "We need to improve our mentality under pressure. Many players still need to improve their mentality. They have not followed the proposed tactics well and this is a problem that needs to be overcome.
I hope the fans continue to come to the stadium and cheer us on. We will definitely do well in the semi-final against Indonesia."
The defeat against the Vietnamese futsal team forced Thailand to face a strong opponent, Indonesia, in the semi-final match tomorrow (6:00 p.m., November 8), while the Vietnamese team will face an opponent considered easier, the Australian futsal team, at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow.
