Bai Chay Hospital doctors treat the wound of a male patient who suffered an eye injury while moving house.

A few days ago, Mr. NVT (58 years old, residing in Gieng Day Ward, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh) was unfortunately hit in the right eye by a piece of metal while cleaning the house at the end of the year.

After that, Mr. T. felt his eyes were swollen, red, painful, gritty, watery, had blurred vision, and was afraid of light, so his family took him to Bai Chay Hospital.

Upon receiving the patient, ophthalmologists examined the patient with a microscope, stained him with fluoressein, and took X-rays of the eye socket to determine the condition of the eyeball tear injury.

Next, the patient was operated on by doctors at the Ophthalmology Department to treat the injury and preserve the eyeball. Accordingly, the doctors cleaned the laceration, removed the foreign body and sutured the cornea, injected antibiotics in the anterior chamber, preserved the eyeball, and administered tetanus antitoxin.

After surgery, the patient's health condition is stable and he continues to receive antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment.

Doctor Luu Thi Quynh Nga (Department of Ophthalmology, Bai Chay Hospital) said that near Tet, the unit often receives many cases of patients with eye injuries due to hard foreign objects, even sharp foreign objects, thrown, or strong impacts during work and daily activities such as home renovation, cleaning, hygiene, etc.

The case of patient T. mentioned above was very lucky to have come to the hospital early and had his eye injury treated promptly. Because, before that, there were many cases of patients coming to the hospital late in serious condition due to ruptured eyeball injuries or penetrating eyeball injuries. If not treated promptly, the patient could lose vision permanently, affecting aesthetics and quality of life.

Through the above patient case, Dr. Nga also recommends that people should be careful and wear protective gear for their eyes during work to avoid serious eye injuries. When an eye injury is caused by a foreign object, the patient should go to a medical facility with an ophthalmology department for timely examination and treatment.
