Dong Thap: Xeo Quyt relic site

Xeo Quit relic site is located in My Long and My Hiep communes, Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province, about 06 km from National Highway 30, with a total area of about 63 hectares. From 1960 to 1975, Kien Phong Provincial Party Committee (now Dong Thap) chose this place as a base to lead the people of the province to contribute to the whole country's successful resistance war against the US to save the country.

In the past, this place was a wild, swampy land, full of weeds and a freshwater area contaminated with alum, with many mosquitoes and leeches. The accommodation and activities of the Provincial Party Committee mainly relied on the protection and shelter of the people in the surrounding area and had to dig ditches and raise beds to prevent enemy tanks, build fortifications and plant trees to create forests, and improve the terrain for shelter and activities. The current relic cajuput forest is the result of cadres, soldiers and local people implementing the policy of planting trees and creating forests of the Provincial Party Committee. Today, the cajuput trees here are about 60 years old and each cajuput tree is a symbol of the people's heart protecting the Party.

Around this base, there were more than 10 enemy posts, forming a closed circle. The nearest post was about 01 km from the base and the farthest was about 06 km away. During the war, Xeo Quit was the enemy's "shooting range", "helicopter landing pad", where B52 aircraft, M113 amphibious vehicles, flying boats, artillery combined with enemy infantry continuously bombed, swept, and shelled the base area, aiming to destroy all life on this land. Each yellow squash blossom or each rooster crow, if discovered by them, would have to "receive" dozens of tons of bombs and artillery. Therefore, the Provincial Party Committee had to face the gap between life and death. However, thanks to its intelligence, perseverance, courage, endurance of hardships and the protection of the people, the Provincial Party Committee still operated and existed until the day of total victory.

With those important historical marks, on April 9, 1992, Xeo Quit was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

In addition to its historical value - a "red address" to educate the younger generation about tradition, today Xeo Quit relic site is also a wetland with biodiversity, beautiful natural space and landscape. According to the Dong Thap Province Tourism Development Project, since 2015 Xeo Quit has been identified as one of the key tourist destinations of Dong Thap province. Xeo Quit relic site has also been certified by the Mekong Delta Tourism Association as a typical tourist destination of the Mekong Delta (in 2016 and 2019).
