Recruitment trends in the labor market are always changing, many industries are forecast to have surplus employees within the next 5 years.

Choosing a career that is in line with social trends will help young people reduce the risk of unemployment. Below are forecasts of 4 occupations with surplus human resources in the next 5 years, you can refer to them for the right direction.

Finance - Banking

A recent report shows that the Finance - Banking industry could cut about 200,000 workers in the next 3 - 5 years, as artificial intelligence (AI) technology gradually replaces humans in performing some jobs.

BI’s survey also highlighted that many bank directors expect to cut 3% of their workforce, with employees in office, middle-office operations, analysis or reporting having the highest rate of layoffs.

In the face of the AI wave, nearly a quarter of respondents working at large corporations such as Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs predict a 5-10% reduction in staff. This is considered an inevitable trend as artificial intelligence helps banks save costs.

Accountant

Accounting is the activity of recording, classifying, checking, and reporting financial information and business activities of an organization or individual. This field of study is taught by many universities in our country.

Lao Dong newspaper quoted Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, Vice Chairman of FPT University Council, saying that in the context of most provinces and cities converting to digital and not using documents, it is expected that about 85% of accountants may lose their jobs in the future, including those who have worked for many years.

Therefore, becoming a better version of yourself every day is essential to ensure your long-term survival in this field.

Translation

The emergence of voice and text applications has gradually made it easier for people to translate. Instead of sitting and looking up and translating text on demand, these applications will now help you create increasingly accurate and fast translations.

Several online demos have shown that ChatGPT does a much better job of translating than Google Translate. As companies race to improve their language models and train their systems in foreign languages, the need for junior translators will decrease.

Many companies may even stop hiring new staff and fire old employees, because AI has helped them replace human work with efficiency beyond expectations.

Technology and startups

According to the New York Times, about 135,000 tech and startup workers have been laid off since April 2023. Many programming workers are also more precarious than ever because of artificial intelligence.

CompTIA reports that the number of job postings for experienced programmers has dropped 56% compared to five years ago. For jobs that do not require experienced programmers, the hiring rate has dropped by 67%.

Clearly, AI is creating a tsunami in the labor market, leaving many people facing the risk of unemployment in the future.
