News, forecast of coffee prices tomorrow 8/4/2025
Forecast of domestic coffee prices on August 4, 2025
Vietnam’s domestic coffee prices are expected to experience complex fluctuations on August 4. Although global coffee prices recovered after a sharp decline over the weekend, domestic factors may keep prices relatively high.
Farmers in the Central Highlands are hoarding their goods, waiting for prices to rise further, especially when there is information about the possibility of drought. If coffee prices exceed VND100,000/kg, more supply may be released.
VICOFA’s proposal to exempt VAT for exported coffee has not been approved, so businesses are still under great financial pressure when having to temporarily pay 5% VAT in advance. This could reduce the competitiveness of Vietnamese coffee in the international market, forcing businesses to consider between exporting and domestic consumption.
Domestic coffee prices may remain high, hovering around current levels, and may rise slightly if farmers continue to hoard their products. However, competition from other countries and VAT pressure may restrain the sharp increase.
World Coffee Price Forecast August 4, 2025
US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 50% tariff on coffee imports from Brazil is in the spotlight. Although Brazil is trying to negotiate a reversal, if the tariff is imposed from August 6, Arabica coffee prices on the world market could come under strong upward pressure due to concerns about a shortage of supply from the largest producer.
The new US reciprocal tariff on Vietnam of 20% (down from 46% previously) could give Vietnamese coffee a competitive edge over Brazil. However, Indonesia’s tariff of 19% is still lower, creating fierce competition. In Indonesia, the harvest is underway, which could help ease supply concerns.
After a sharp decline over the weekend, the market may see some correction. Rumors of a possible tariff exemption for Brazil have sent Arabica prices lower, but without official information, market sentiment could turn more cautious.
General future trends
Tariff policies from the US will be an important factor shaping global coffee trade flows. Tariff uncertainty creates a major challenge for exporting countries.
Concerns about drought in Vietnam's Central Highlands, as well as weather conditions in other major coffee growing regions around the world, will continue to support prices.
While the prospect of increased production in Brazil and Vietnam in 2025/26 could put downward pressure on prices, adverse weather and political factors could upset this forecast.
