Red Sea Province Governor Amr Hanafi said today (November 25) that 28 people have been rescued and received necessary medical care, while rescue teams continue to search for the remaining 17 people.

Local authorities received a distress signal from the Sea Story cruise ship at 5:30 a.m. this morning (local time).

The rescue operation was coordinated between the Egyptian Maritime Rescue Center and local authorities, while also mobilizing the Al-Fateh destroyer and armed forces aircraft.

The incident coincides with the current unstable weather situation in Egypt, with the Egyptian Meteorological Authority forecasting turbulence in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, with wave heights possibly reaching 3-4m in the Red Sea and 4-6m in the Mediterranean.

The Red Sea is a famous tourist destination in Egypt, attracting many domestic and foreign tourists, with activities such as diving to see coral and marine life.
