The Food Safety Authority advises consumers: Health is more important than any promise from a TikTok video or a social media post. Don't be fooled by fancy advertising or celebrity images online.

Missing treatment opportunities due to believing in functional food advertisements

According to the Department of Food Safety, Ministry of Health , on the media, social networks, especially on social networking platforms, there are TikTokers, KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders), KOCs (Key Opinion Consumers) in the role of food product introducers with "miraculous" promises such as helping to lose weight quickly, beautify the skin instantly, or improve health.

"Exaggerating" the effects of functional foods, causing consumers to misunderstand the true capabilities of the product

The Food Safety Department recommends that, to avoid falling into the "trap" of baseless advertisements, consumers need to learn carefully about the product before deciding to buy; only choose to buy functional foods from reliable sources.

At the same time, don’t be fooled by flashy advertising or celebrity images online. Your health is more important than any promise from a TikTok video or a Facebook post.

According to the Food Safety Department, advertisements such as "completely cures the disease", "quick effect after just a few days", "100% natural traditional medicine"... are all signs of exaggerated advertising. In many cases, influential figures on social networks have "exaggerated" the effects of functional foods, causing consumers to misunderstand the true capabilities of the product.

The Food Safety Department noted that these advertisements not only cause disappointment when the product does not meet expectations, but also pose a potential risk to health. Consumers may arbitrarily use functional foods without consulting experts, leading to side effects or other serious problems.

In addition, many over-advertised products may be counterfeit, fake, or of unknown origin, putting users at even greater risk.

Worryingly, many patients believe in functional foods, ignoring the doctor's treatment regimen, leading to more serious illness, missing the opportunity for proper treatment. In addition, some products of unknown origin may contain banned substances, causing dangerous side effects.
