This afternoon, National Highway 55 connecting the Ta Pao Holy Mother Center (Tanh Linh) through the Da Mi hydroelectric lake to Bao Loc city suffered a serious landslide. Fallen trees, rocks and soil from the hillsides fell across the road, paralyzing the road.

Mr. Tran Dinh Hoa, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Mi Commune, Ham Thuan Bac District, said that at least 5 landslides have been recorded on this national highway. Vehicles from Binh Thuan to Bao Loc City and vice versa cannot move and have to turn back.

The Da Mi commune authorities have mobilized four vehicles to clear the scene, but the amount of rock, soil and trees that fell on the road was too much, and the road was still cut off. "We have contacted the provincial Department of Transport for support so that traffic can resume soon," said Mr. Hoa.

In addition to National Highway 55, landslides also occurred in the Da Mi area connecting Ta Pao, separating Tanh Linh district and Ham Thuan Bac district.

Over the past four days, Binh Thuan has had continuous heavy rains. In the mountainous areas of Tanh Linh and Ham Thuan Bac, rainfall was measured at 50-96 mm. Many agricultural production areas, houses and roads were flooded, causing damage of more than 5 billion VND. A 47-year-old woman in Duc Phu commune was swept away by floodwaters and her body was found on the evening of July 29. Yesterday, the rain and floods also caused the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet expressway to be deeply flooded, causing traffic congestion for 5 hours.

In Lam Dong, heavy rains that have lasted for many days also caused landslides on Bao Loc Pass on Highway 20 - one of the main routes from Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai to Da Lat City. Fallen trees and rocks spilled onto the road, causing traffic congestion for many hours.
