Pig price today 11/21

* The live pig market in the North increased from 1,000 VND/kg to 3,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, after a slight increase of VND 1,000/kg, traders in Yen Bai , Lao Cai, Hung Yen, Vinh Phuc and Ninh Binh are purchasing live pigs at prices ranging from VND 50,000 - 52,000/kg, depending on the region.

Live pigs in Hanoi are being traded at 52,000 VND/kg, an increase of 2,000 VND/kg.

Ha Nam and Tuyen Quang provinces both adjusted the price of live pigs to increase by the highest 3,000 VND/kg, equivalent to 51,000 VND/kg and 52,000 VND/kg, respectively.

Today's live pig price in the North is around 50,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions also increased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg.

Accordingly, the price of live pigs in Nghe An and Ha Tinh is 49,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg.

Traders in Thanh Hoa and Dak Lak are purchasing live pigs at the same price of 50,000 VND/kg, after increasing by 1,000 VND/kg and 2,000 VND/kg respectively.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 49,000 - 51,000 VND/kg.

* In the Southern region, pig prices are adjusted inconsistently.

Currently, Soc Trang province increased by 1,000 VND/kg to 51,000 VND/kg.

This is also the price of live pigs recorded in Kien Giang province after decreasing by 2,000 VND/kg.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today fluctuates between 50,000 - 53,000 VND/kg.

* According to the representative of the Dong Nai Province Livestock Association, if the epidemic increases and the price of live pigs continues to decrease, small-scale farmers will limit herd restoration or even stop raising pigs. However, the farm and business sectors will still maintain stable livestock farming scale due to the advantages of closed production processes, lower livestock farming costs, and good disease prevention mechanisms.

The representative of the Association commented: "The biggest concern of livestock farmers at present is that purchasing power is still weak. The clearest evidence is that during the peak Tet season last year, pork prices could not increase as usual in previous years. The current market trend makes many livestock farmers worried."

Market research firm Ipsos said that since October 2023, businesses have increased their purchases of pork to process in preparation for Tet. If supply was limited, prices would have increased again by this time. However, prices have not increased at present, proving that supply is still good.

Ipsos emphasized: "The problem of the market is weak demand due to economic difficulties. Therefore, the price of live pigs will hardly improve quickly in the near future even though the epidemic affects the supply.

The market in 2024 is also very difficult to forecast because the epidemic is still complicated and demand has not shown signs of optimism. Abundant pork supply and falling prices are not only in Vietnam but also a common trend in the world market."
