Group A competing at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ) includes Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia. Group B competing at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho) includes U23 Australia, Philippines, Myanmar and Timor-Leste.

fierce competition

With home advantage and a stable squad, the Vietnamese women's team is considered a strong candidate for the championship, along with Thailand, U23 Australia and the defending champion Philippines. Notably, Vietnam and Thailand are in the same group, promising to create a top-notch competition.

In the history of the tournament, the Vietnamese women's team has won the championship three times (2006, 2012, 2019), one title less than Thailand. The Philippines - the champion in 2022 - continues to maintain its strength thanks to its policy of naturalizing players. The "naturalization" wave also appeared in Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar.

Coach Futoshi Ikeda (Thailand) highly appreciated the host Vietnam, considering them the strongest opponent in Group A thanks to their balanced force and good technique. Because the tournament is not part of FIFA Days, Thailand cannot call up their full force from abroad. However, they still have two notable factors: Madison Jade Casteen and Yulia Gurning - two players of American origin.

In Group B, U23 Australia, although not bringing the strongest squad, is still a formidable opponent. Myanmar is preparing for the tournament with a training trip to China, while Indonesia continues its "Dutch-ization" plan like men's football.

Aiming for the 4th championship

With a stable squad and home field advantage, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team are expected to continue to conquer the challenge and win the 4th Southeast Asian championship. However, the road ahead will not be easy as the opponents have all improved the quality of their players in many ways.

As the host, the Vietnamese women's team has made thorough preparations for the tournament. After a physical training session in Quang Ninh , coach Mai Duc Chung and his team continued to practice tactics in Hai Phong and played friendly matches to review the squad. Previously, in June, the team had a successful training trip to Japan (2 wins, 1 draw), along with 3 wins in the 2026 Asian qualifiers, helping the team gain more confidence before entering the tournament.

In the opening match of Group A, at 7:30 p.m. today (August 6), the Vietnamese women's team will meet Cambodia. With home field advantage and superiority in class, the goal of winning all 3 points is within reach of Huynh Nhu and her teammates. Meanwhile, Cambodia suddenly changed the hot seat a few days ago, the team just appointed head coach of the men's team Koji Gyoto-ku to lead the women's team, who are still in the process of stabilizing their squad. The change of coach near the tournament will bring many disturbances to the team of the Pagoda country.

The return of midfielder Thanh Nha after a long injury is a notable point. The player who scored against Germany promises to increase his speed and ability to penetrate the right wing - in the context that Huynh Nhu is no longer at the peak of his physical strength and young players like Minh Chuyen are still inexperienced. In addition, the appearance of new faces like Truc Huong and Thu Xuan also brings a new breeze to the journey to conquer the regional championship of the female warriors of the Golden Star.
