Previously, at around 8:00 a.m. the same day, people living near the intersection of National Highway 22 and Nguyen Anh Thu Street - the border between District 12 and Hoc Mon District (in Trung My Tay Ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City) saw a man with unusual behavior, suspected of being "high on drugs", climbing a lamppost in the middle of the median strip of National Highway 22.

The man stood on the iron bar across the lamp post despite people's advice to climb down because it was too dangerous. The incident attracted many passersby who stopped their vehicles to watch, causing traffic congestion.
Upon receiving the news, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Hoc Mon District Police (initially receiving a report from the people about the incident occurring in Hoc Mon District) mobilized vehicles and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to find a way to bring this person to the ground. The man remained on the lamppost every time the authorities arrived, causing many difficulties for the rescue work.
At the same time, a joint force including: Trung My Tay Ward Police (District 12), Ba Diem Commune (Hoc Mon District), An Suong Traffic Police Team (Traffic Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police) and local civil defense were also mobilized to participate in rescuing this man. Although the rescue police tried their best to dissuade and persuade this man to climb down, it was unsuccessful. To avoid this man jumping to the ground, the authorities stretched a tarpaulin to cover the area below.

The authorities then used a ladder truck to approach the man. At around 10:30 a.m. the same day, while trying to persuade him, the police were able to quickly approach and subdue him, bringing him safely to the ground.
