Reporting to the Ministry of Construction on the plan to handle the abandoned Boeing aircraft at Noi Bai airport, the Civil Aviation Authority said that the Boeing B727-200 with registration number XU-RKJ, owned by Royal Khmer Airlines (Cambodian nationality), had an accident and had been parked at Noi Bai airport since May 1, 2007.

After many notifications to the aircraft owner and relevant Cambodian agencies, on November 11, 2014, the State Committee for Civil Aviation of Cambodia announced: The operating license (AOC) of Royal Khmer Airlines has been revoked; the aircraft has been deregistered as Cambodian since October 13, 2008; Cambodia agreed to let Vietnam handle the aircraft according to Vietnamese law.

Therefore, the plan to hand over aircraft to the Vietnam Aviation Academy to use as models, teaching aids, and internships in specialized aviation training facilities is considered appropriate by the Civil Aviation Authority.

To buy a plane to use as a teaching model, it must be imported from abroad with aviation standards, the estimated cost is about 500 billion VND. Meanwhile, dismantling and transporting the plane from Noi Bai to install at the Aviation Academy's 3rd facility in Cam Ranh (Khanh Hoa) costs 8.74 billion VND, if transferred to the facility in Long Thanh, Dong Nai province, the cost is 9.66 billion VND.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, although the Boeing 727-200 abandoned at Noi Bai airport is no longer capable of restoring its flight performance, it is a useful asset to use as a visual teaching aid for students.

Because the plane still has all the structures such as the frame, seats, landing gear, cockpit, display clocks, and engine to serve training in the fields of aviation engineering, electricity - electronics, and ground commerce serving flights.

At the same time, the aircraft is used as a teaching tool to train industries and subjects such as: flight attendants, aviation security, air traffic controllers, basic aviation knowledge...
