Grade 9 students are reviewing for the grade 10 entrance exam.

After announcing the data of students registering for grade 10 on May 12, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training noted that grade 9 students will have the only time to adjust their preferences online from May 15 to 21. Specifically, students will access the grade 10 admission registration system to adjust their preferences.

Principals and teachers of secondary schools should note that if there is any adjustment, students and parents should notify the homeroom teacher to check the accuracy and complete the update of new wishes.

In addition to changing the 10th grade wishes on the system, Mr. Vo Kim Bao, a teacher at Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1), advised that during this time, students and parents should consult their teachers about their academic performance if they intend to adjust their wishes. Based on the teachers' assessment, parents and students can consider before changing their wishes accordingly.

From many years of experience as a homeroom teacher, Mr. Kim Bao advises parents and students to compare their preferences. Especially the gap between preferences 1 and 2, in which if the first preference is higher than the student's academic ability, then the second preference should be adjusted down to schools within the student's ability. If the first preference is confidently within "reach", then the second preference can be kept the same. And of course, the third preference must be below the student's academic ability.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thien An, Principal of Nguyen Van Be Secondary School (Binh Thanh District), shared that not all students need to change their 10th grade wishes.

According to Ms. An, students should only adjust if they previously chose an inappropriate wish, registered according to friends or family expectations.

"Therefore, this one-week period is an opportunity for students and their parents to re-evaluate whether their chosen choices are suitable for their learning abilities and family conditions. The core is still that the student's abilities are suitable for their 10th grade wishes. Parents should sit down with their children to reach an agreement, to avoid affecting the student's psychology when entering the exam room," Ms. An noted.
