Google gives Bard the ability to create and debug code

According to Engadget , Bard can now be written in 20 programming languages, including C++, Java, JavaScript, and Python. It also now features integrations with other products and can export code to Colab, the company's cloud-based notebook environment for Python, as well as help users write scripts for Sheets.

Google is focusing on improving Bard to increase competition with ChatGPT

In addition to generating code, Bard can now provide code commentary. This can be especially useful if you are just starting out with programming. In particular, Bard can help you debug code that isn't working the way the programmer intended.

Google admits at this point that Bard may produce code that “does not produce the expected output” or incomplete code. Google recommends that users carefully review and test its responses first. In fact, Bard can debug its own output if the user finds it returning an error, simply type “this code doesn’t work, please fix it.” Finally, if the user isn’t a programming novice but still needs help, they can ask the chatbot to optimize their code by making it faster or more efficient.

The tech giant opened up access to its AI chatbot in March, although it still has a long way to go before it reaches the level of popularity that ChatGPT has achieved. ChatGPT also has the ability to write and improve existing code in a number of programming languages, so it was perhaps a natural fit for Google to give Bard that ability. Google has also been steadily improving Bard in other ways, and has previously rolled out upgrades powered by a new language model called PaLM. A few days ago, the company created a “testing updates” page where users can see all the changes Bard has undergone as it adds more features and fixes bugs.
