After more than two weeks of barricading the “Shark Jaws” building, on the evening of June 19, Hanoi mobilized specialized equipment and workers to demolish the “concrete block” located next to Hoan Kiem Lake. At nearly 11 p.m., the authorities used a crane to bring saws and drills to the top floor of the building to prepare to cut the concrete blocks.

Because the “Shark Jaws” building is located on the shore of Hoan Kiem Lake and the core of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, all demolition activities are being carried out carefully by the authorities. Hoan Kiem District has not yet announced a specific demolition schedule.

Equipment was mobilized to the scene to demolish the building.

Previously, after the relocation of shops from the 1st to the 6th floors, at the end of May 2025, Hoan Kiem district fenced off the building to prepare for the demolition process. The building is 6 stories high, with each floor being more than 300 square meters wide. After demolition, this area will be used as an underground space at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square.

TP Hà Nội dự kiến trước tháng 9/2025 sẽ hoàn thành phá dỡ tòa nhà.
Hanoi City plans to complete the demolition of the building by September 2025.

After the demolition, Hanoi City will continue to study solutions to develop the underground space of the square; continue to renovate the first layer of houses on the street around the square; renovate the overall technical infrastructure to match the activities of Hoan Kiem Lake, a special national relic; and add urban equipment suitable for the functional activities of the area.
