In 2024, Hanoi City aims to plant 200,000-250,000 new shade trees and timber trees on urban roads, increasing the green space ratio to 8-10 m2/person by 2025.

According to the 2024 socio-economic plan recently issued by the Hanoi People's Committee, in addition to planting shade trees and timber trees, the city will plant about 200,000 fruit trees and plant an additional 20-30 hectares of forest. Of which, in the first spring tree planting season of Giap Thin (from February 15 to 24, 2024), the city will plant 100,000-120,000 trees of all kinds.

Along the traffic routes, the city will plant shade trees such as Cassia, Sau, Royal Poinciana, Lagerstroemia, Long Lao, and Ban Tay Bac. Historical and cultural relic sites, new urban areas, and public works will be planted with shade trees and fruit trees such as grapefruit, longan, orange, tangerine, and apple. Forestry lands will be planted with green lim, pine, acacia, lat hoa, Sao den, and Mat...

After the Tet tree planting season, the tree planting season can be extended to spring (from February to April) and autumn (from August to October).

According to city statistics, in response to the Prime Minister 's program of planting one billion trees in the 2021-2025 period, since 2021, the city has planted more than 133,000 new shade trees, 100,000 ornamental trees and 550,000 array trees and lawns.

In 2023 alone, the newly planted forest area will reach 47 hectares, bringing the total forest area of the city to nearly 18,600 hectares, with a forest cover rate of nearly 6%.

The city has completed the renovation of 5 flower gardens (Truc Bach - Ba Dinh, Hoang Van Thu - Hoang Mai, Dien Hong - Hoan Kiem, Ngoc Lam - Long Bien and Le Truc - Ba Dinh); built 5 new parks CV1 (Cau Giay district), Astronomy (Ha Dong district), two parks Ngoc Thuy and Long Bien (Long Bien district) and Mai Dich lake park (Nam Tu Liem district). Hanoi has also approved the renovation of three large parks including Thong Nhat, Thu Le and Bach Thao.

Hanoi currently has about 1.8 million urban trees, mainly acacia, dracontomelon, royal poinciana, cassia, purple-flowered lagerstroemia, rosewood, sycamore, and sycamore. In the 2016-2020 period alone, about 1.6 million new trees were planted. However, the urban green area of the city is only about 2 m2/person, while according to the standards for class 1 and special cities, it is at least 6-7 m2/person.
