According to Reuters news agency, on December 13 (local time), the Democratic-controlled US House of Representatives will vote to formalize the Democratic Party's impeachment investigation of President Joe Biden. Previously, the US House Rules Committee voted to approve a resolution to officially open an impeachment investigation of President Biden.
The resolution, introduced by Republican Representative Kelly Armstrong, asks three US House committees to authorize an investigation into President Joe Biden's business dealings, alleging that Mr. Biden and his family improperly profited from policy decisions he participated in as Vice President under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017.
They also accused the Justice Department of improperly interfering in the investigation of businessman Hunter Biden, President Biden's son.
Republican Congressman Byron Donalds, a member of one of three committees investigating Mr. Biden, said the investigation is expected to conclude within the next two months and the House will draft articles of impeachment in the spring.
So far, House Republicans have not produced evidence linking Biden’s actions as vice president to his son’s business dealings, making it unlikely that the Senate, where Democrats hold a slim majority, would vote to convict the president if the House passes articles of impeachment.
The White House has repeatedly dismissed the investigation as a “baseless ploy” to appease right-wing lawmakers. US lawmakers are scheduled to leave Washington DC on December 14 for a three-week holiday break.
