Citing a senior Hamas source, Al-Jazeera said that talks between Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Egyptian mediators took place in the past few hours, in which Hamas reiterated its firm stance demanding Israel allow Palestinians to return to the northern Gaza Strip without restrictions, a permanent ceasefire and a complete withdrawal of troops from the area.

Previously, Israel said that Hamas's demands were "illusory". It is estimated that there are still about 130 Israeli hostages being held in Gaza.

Meanwhile, according to Sputnik, in a joint letter to President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, 40 members of the US Congress (including former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi) called for a halt to the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel after the Jewish State's bloody attack on the humanitarian convoy of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) organization in the Gaza Strip.

“We write to express our shared concern and outrage over the recent Israeli airstrike that killed seven WCK aid workers, including a U.S. citizen,” the letter said. “In light of this incident, we strongly urge you to reconsider your recent decision to authorize a new arms package to Israel, and to suspend this and all future offensive arms transfers until a full investigation into the airstrike is completed.”

The letter also calls on Washington to ensure that future military shipments to Israel, including licensed transfers, are “subject to conditions that ensure they are used in accordance with US and international law.”
