A series of South Korean officials resigned after martial law

According to Yonhap, a series of senior advisors to South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol have submitted their resignations after President Yoon Seok-yeol declared martial law.


On December 4, the Korean news agency Yonhap reported that after the martial law declaration by the Korean President, on December 4, a series of senior advisors to Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol submitted their resignations.

The list includes three heads of the Office, including: Chief of Staff Jeong Jin-seok, Director of the National Security Office Shin Won-sik and Director of Policy Seong Tae-yoon. Many senior staff have submitted their resignations.

Also on the morning of December 4, the South Korean Presidential Office issued a statement to reporters about the incident . "Chief of Staff Lee Sang is said to have agreed to hold a meeting of Chiefs of Staff chaired by Chief of Staff Jeong this morning and agreed to their resignation..." - South Korean news agency - Yonhap posted.

Earlier, late on December 3, the South Korean President declared martial law, accusing the opposition of "anti-state activities and plotting rebellion".

Speaking on national television, the South Korean president said the decision was made to "protect constitutional order." Following the announcement, the South Korean Defense Ministry said that Minister Kim Yong Hyun had ordered a meeting of key commanders and asked for increased vigilance.

Mr. Kim Yong Hyun also ordered the South Korean military to maintain a state of emergency protection.

Responding to the declaration of martial law, opposition Democratic Party leader Lee Jae Myung said it was “unconstitutional.”

However, just after 6 hours, the South Korean cabinet approved the end of martial law at 4:30 a.m. on December 4.
