Protesters carried green flags with doves, German flags and banners calling for peace and stopping arms supplies to certain countries, including arms transfers to Ukraine.

According to organizers, about 5,000 people initially registered, but 7,000 people turned up. The protest was peaceful. About 500 police were deployed to ensure public order.

Germany, along with the United States, is one of the largest arms suppliers to Ukraine. Russia has long opposed the West providing weapons and military equipment to Ukraine, saying it is a sign of NATO's direct involvement in the war and could escalate the conflict.

In another development, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius met with his Philippine counterpart Gilberto Teodoro in the capital Manila to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

In a joint statement issued on August 4, the defense ministers of Germany and the Philippines pledged to finalize an expanded defense cooperation agreement.

Both ministers said they also committed to establishing long-term relations between the two armed forces to expand training and exchange activities between the two countries.
