“First of all, passengers have been sitting (on the plane) for hours. Maybe they just want to stand up to get their blood circulating.
Second, passengers sitting in the middle seat will be very grateful, because they can move comfortably to get their luggage,” Ms. Jackson told People magazine (USA).
Third, passengers also save a few precious seconds. The above action mainly serves the purpose of emotional and mental release for passengers on the flight, she added.
Ms. Jackson notes that this only works if passengers are aware of their surroundings. They need to avoid focusing so much on their own needs that they ignore the personal space of others.
Standing up without a basis only makes surrounding passengers feel cramped, uncomfortable, or like the person standing up is trying to get ahead of everyone else.
Passengers should also not comment on other passengers' speed of movement and baggage retrieval.
“Every passenger wants to get off the plane, whether it’s a two-hour flight or a 16-hour flight. Some people move more slowly, while others are used to getting off the plane quickly.
“You can’t choose the pace of someone else’s journey. Getting angry and yelling will only escalate things,” Jackson said.
All passengers want to get off the plane as quickly as possible. If passengers stand up one by one when the signal light turns off and take their luggage, the process of moving off the plane will be smoother and faster.
In the event that passengers need to get off first to catch a connecting flight, Ms. Jackson advises passengers to tell those sitting around them in advance so they can give way.
