Coach Allardyce leaves Leeds after failed mission to save Premier League survival

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên02/06/2023

Allardyce, 68, was unable to save Leeds from relegation from the Premier League after being appointed with just four games remaining in the 2022-23 season.

A Leeds statement read: "Leeds United and Sam Allardyce can confirm that both parties have agreed for Sam's contract to expire at the end of the 2022-23 season. Sam joined the Whites for the final four games of the season and despite spirited performances against Man City and Newcastle United, the objective of staying in the Premier League was not achieved."

Leeds failed in their bid to avoid relegation

The former Newcastle and West Ham boss has left Leeds after 25 days in charge following talks with chief executive Angus Kinnear. The Elland Road outfit have confirmed Big Sam's fate after Leeds picked up just one point from four games under the manager. An announcement on the new Leeds United manager is expected in the coming weeks.

Last weekend's 4-1 home defeat to Tottenham left Leeds five points adrift of the relegation zone, while rivals Everton, who survived relegation, and Leicester (who were also relegated along with Leeds and Southampton) both won.

Leeds fans' disappointment

Allardyce previously worked wonders to keep Bolton and Sunderland from relegation from the Premier League, and Leeds will be hoping he can do the same again. This season, Leeds sacked manager Jesse Marsch at the end of February and interim manager Javi Gracia at the start of May.
