At the 2025 AFF Women's Championship (Women's AFF Cup), the Thai women's team fell into Group A with host Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia. The group has the presence of two football nations with many ties in the region, Thailand and Vietnam, making the situation more remarkable than ever. Meanwhile, Group B includes Myanmar, Australia, the Philippines and Timor Leste.

Thailand team coach: "Vietnam is very strong and even"

At this time, the Thai women's team has arrived in Hai Phong , Vietnam. Coach Futoshi Ikeda and his team are staying at the Mercure Hotel, the same place as the Vietnamese women's team. Speaking to the Thai media before departure, Coach Ikeda said: "Recently, the whole team has been training with high intensity and has prepared very carefully. The players all performed well and made me satisfied. The past week was a stressful and tiring training period, but the players tried their best. We have 3 more days of training in Vietnam before the first match. I want the players to get as familiar with the competition atmosphere as possible. In the opening match against Indonesia, we will have to analyze the opponent carefully to have the best preparation."

Notably, the Japanese coach highly appreciated the host team Vietnam, our direct opponent in Group A: "Vietnam is a very strong and even team. They have a good technical foundation, organize a tight playing style and have won the regional championship many times. This is our biggest challenge in the group stage."

"All three of Thailand's opponents in Group A have many young and developing players. Therefore, this will not be an easy task for us. Indonesia has many mixed-race players who are playing abroad. Cambodia is a team in the construction phase with a diverse playing style. Thailand will absolutely not be subjective and will prepare well," the Japanese coach said.

Regarding the Thai women's team, coach Ikeda said: "This tournament is not part of FIFA Days, so we cannot call up players who are playing abroad, as well as some players from BG Bundit Asia Club, because they are preparing to participate in an important tournament. The current Thai squad is young, but most of the players have performed well in the domestic tournament. For the U.20 players, I see this as a good opportunity for them to gain experience playing in the national team. Through training sessions, they have made significant progress. I am very excited to see how they perform in this tournament."
