Coach Kim Sang-sik shortens the list of Vietnam U22 team

(NLDO) - Coach Kim Sang-sik has decided to shorten the list of the Vietnam U22 team to 28 players.

After 10 days of training and two practice matches with U22 Chinese Taipei in Ba Ria Vung Tau, Coach Kim decided to reduce the list of U22 Vietnam team to 28 players. This is the first step in adjusting the team's force before the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

Previously, on the first day of the meeting, the U22 Vietnam team had a personnel addition when midfielder Nguyen Quoc Viet (Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club) was called up, bringing the total number of players on the list to 36. After the professional evaluation phase through training sessions and two internal practice matches, the coaching staff decided to say goodbye to 8 players including: Nguyen Quang Vinh (SLNA), Nguyen Dang Duong (The Cong Viettel ), Le Dinh Long Vu (SLNA), Dinh Xuan Tien (SLNA), Nguyen Le Phat (PVF), Le Van Thuan (Dong A Thanh Hoa), Nguyen Bao Long (PVF), Dinh Quang Kiet (HAGL).

On the afternoon of July 6, the group of 8 players above returned to their home clubs to prepare for the new season, while waiting for the opportunity to participate in the next training sessions, towards the 2026 U23 Asian Qualifiers as well as the 33rd SEA Games.

According to the plan, the Vietnam U22 team will continue to practice in Ba Ria Vung Tau until July 12. After that, the team will move to Tan Son Nhat to prepare for the flight to Indonesia on the morning of July 14, officially entering the journey to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship. Before leaving, coach Kim Sang-sik will announce the official list of 23 players, and the team will use the name Vietnam U23 Team to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

The tournament will take place from July 15 to 29. In the group stage, U23 Vietnam will meet U23 Laos on July 19 and U23 Cambodia on July 22. With two consecutive championships in 2022 and 2023, the U23 Vietnam team is expected to continue to successfully defend the title in the regional arena.
