The Korea Football Association (KFA) confirmed yesterday (August 6): "Mr. Shin Tae Yong, the new head coach of Ulsan HD, has officially resigned as Vice Chairman of the 55th KFA Executive Committee. This decision takes effect from August 4."
Shin Tae Yong was appointed as KFA Vice President in April, about four months after being fired as head coach by the Indonesian Football Association. At the KFA, Shin Tae Yong was primarily responsible for promoting foreign cooperation related to national teams. After three months in this role, his appointment as Ulsan HD head coach left him unable to continue his managerial duties at the KFA.

Previously, Ulsan HD decided to part ways with coach Kim Pan Gon on August 1 after a series of disappointing results. Since the 3-2 victory over Gimcheon Sangmu on May 24 (round 15 of K League 1), Ulsan has gone 7 consecutive matches without a win in the domestic league (3 draws, 4 losses). More broadly, in the last 11 matches in all competitions, including the defeat at the FIFA Club World Cup and the Korean Cup, the team has only won 3 draws and lost 8 matches. Even the last match under the leadership of coach Kim Pan Gon, a 2-3 loss to Suwon FC on August 2, could not help him have a happy ending. This achievement is completely opposite to the image of a "dynasty" that won the K League 1 championship three times in a row of Ulsan.
Ulsan quickly chose Shin Tae Yong as his successor, with the two sides announcing the deal on August 5. After returning to full-time coaching, Shin Tae Yoong quickly built a new coaching staff. According to leaked information, he completed most of the team through contacts with current K League coaches. Former national team goalkeeper Kim Yong Dae and current FC Seoul youth coach Yo Yo Han are said to be potential candidates, while Park Chu Young is likely to continue in his position.
In another development, coach Kim Pan Gon, after leaving Ulsan, has attracted interest from the Chinese Super League. Chinese media Sohu reported on August 2 that "the Chinese Super League is ready to recruit coach Kim, who has experience participating in the FIFA Club World Cup." It is likely that coach Kim will come to China as a free agent.
Coach Shin Tae Yong is expected to make his debut in his new position on August 9, when Ulsan HD faces Jeju SK in the 25th round of the Hana Bank K League 1. The match will take place at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium.
